Description for Classroom Wiki

The classroom wiki that I have designed will allow young children to click on pictures in order to learn. Some of the activities within my wiki involve listening skills, moving the mouse and making choices in order to read or create new words. There will be an alphabet movie embedded titled "Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom" where students can listen to a story and identify letter shapes and sounds. Next, students will be able to click on letters to create new "chunk" onset words. For example...cat, hat, bat and sat. Pictures will also be available to click and match to the new words. Lastly, a web graph will be available for students to practice typing these same "chunk" words and create a visual graph. Through these fun and easy activities, students can practice creating new kindergarten level words and use them when writing in the classroom.

My Reflection

I found making my wiki to be open ended, fun and exciting for my students to use in our classroom. It was challenging since I'm still learning many new computer skills, but it's been very helpful while teaching me several new keys and functions on the toolbars. The instructional specialists, Carmella Doty and Kimberly Roberson, were extremely patient and helpful and worked with me to understand my goals and procedures. I'm excited about adding new games and resources to my wiki each unit so that I can maintain my students' interests and center practice time in the classroom.
